How Fitness can Help with Your Bucket List

What’s on your bucket list? As we head towards Spring, you may be dreaming of travel or fun outdoor activities. Or maybe…

  • Do you want to see your kids or grandkids get married?

  • Do you want to go skydiving?

  • Do you want to hike the Blue Ridge Mountains or climb an even bigger mountain?

Most of us have a list like this. Having a “bucket list” is a cool way to turn your dreams into reality!

Unfortunately, the past year has been a hard time for most of us. Between shut-downs, emotional highs and lows, and life changes from COVID this year has been different to say the least. Many of us have been demotivated or unable to stay our healthiest selves.

Now that we begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel - it’s time to start dreaming and taking care of yourself again.

Whether you’re looking to tackle your bucket list tomorrow or years from now: being fit will help you reach your goals!

5 Ways Fitness Helps with Your Bucket List

  1. Kids and grandkids. Nobody wants to be the the parent or grandparent that their kids think is boring. Both parents and grandparents alike play an active role in their families lives. You want to be able to stay strong so you can be mobile and able to hoist, run, and play! Bucket List Item: That can be as simple as getting on the floor to play – and then being able to get back up again or being able to have a race without getting out of breath.

  2. Feel, Look and Move Your Best. Most of us want the benefits of exercise but don’t want to toil in the gym for hours to achieve them. Exercise can boost your mood and appearance. Bucket List Item: I want to look great at my high school reunion. Owner Bill Burnett can tell you first hand how great it feels to show up to your high school reunion a transformed human. He was always a string bean and went back to his a bodybuilder and turned heads.

  3. Hobbies. Many of us enjoy active hobbies like hiking, gardening, or our favorite sport. As we age, without fitness, these hobbies will become harder and maybe even impossible. Fitness can help condition you for the greatest hikes of your lives, an epic backyard garden, or to crush you sport of choice for the long haul. Bucket List Item: Climb a mountain, take a ballroom dance class with your partner, or learn how to play tennis like a pro!

  4. Travel. Whether you are traveling locally or dreaming of the days when you can travel further, fitness can help you get the most of your travels. Feel confident to tackle long days walking a new a city, swimming or snorkeling in beautiful water, or walking up cobblestone stairs to a monument or museum. Now is the time to start dreaming up your destinations and using them as inspiration to hit the gym! Bucket List Item: Take walking tour of a European city; go diving in the Maldives; hike in the Grand Canyon and then some.

  5. Physical Health. Did you hear about the real “wonder drug” to help keep your body healthy? It’s called exercise! Fitness can even help us recover from certain illnesses and grow strong after injuries. Bucket List Item: I want my doctor to take me off certain medications. *always consult your doctor if you’re unsure if something is right for you!
