FOOTRACES & TRIATHLONS IN OUR OWN BACKYARD

C’Ville is an historic city best known as the home of presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe. Visitors travel from all over to see Jefferson’s Monticello plantation and The University of Virginia. But Charlottesville is also popular for its Downtown Mall, arts and culture festivals, as a launching pad for outdoor adventure in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and for the Charlottesville Ten Miler.

The Charlottesville Ten Miler, established in 1976, is the area's oldest and most prestigious footrace and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local charities over the past 40 years. In 2021, the event briskly ran through C’ville in March. But don’t fear…there are plenty of other races in and around the area that will be held both virtually and in-person throughout the upcoming summer months and read to the bottom for a chance to participate in our FREE upcoming running clinic and get a FREE registration to a race:

  • Run Wild 5K: Saturday May 8th at 8:30 am
Race to save the endangered African penguin in this unique 5k through Richmond’s Metro Zoo. After you cross the finish line, each runner can visit the zoo for free!

  • Mint Springs Trail 5K: Saturday May 8th at 8 am
Located in Crozet’s beautiful Mint Springs Park, this 5K (which is one of four races in the Charlottesville Summer Trail Running Series) is a challenging course that winds up and down the mountain trails and finishes at the upper lake pavilion.

  • LIVE BOLD Orchard 5K: Saturday May 29th at 9 am
An excellent start to your Memorial Day weekend, this 5K is a run4cider event, offering (you guessed it), a refreshing Bold Rock finish. But first you get to enjoy a scenic and challenging foot tour of Carter Mountain Orchard.

  • 4 Our Freedom 5K: Saturday June 5th at 8 am & virtually for the entire month of June
This event, which takes place in the North Fork business park (home of Success Studio North), offers participants the opportunity to run in honor of a fallen local hero, in conjunction with ParadeRest’s Finding the Fallen project, or for a loved one of their choosing. Read below to find out how Success Studio North can help you to train for this fun event.

  • O-Hilly Trail 5K: Tuesday June 8th at 7 pm
This demanding 5K (which is one of four races in the Charlottesville Summer Trail Running Series) takes place on the grassy field behind UVA’s Zehmer Hall, completely on single-track trails (no roads) with a total elevation change of 684 ft.

  • 2021 Cal Tri Fry's Spring: Sunday June 27th
This is a sprint triathlon that starts and finishes at Fry’s Springs Beach Club. It features a 400-meter swim in a 50-meter pool, a 12-mile bike course, and a 5K run.

  • Cal Tri Crozet Park: Sunday July 11th
This triathlon, located in Crozet Park, is the perfect first race for athletes who are tri-curious but are still gaining confidence in open water.

  • Late Summer Meltdown 4-Miler: Tuesday August 10th at 7 pm
The Late Summer Meltdown (which is one of four races in the Charlottesville Summer Trail Running Series) starts at Pen Park and follows parts of the Rivanna Trail on single-track and double-track trails. There are both rolling hills and flat grassy sections, but the course is not very technical. The race ends with BBQ and awards to top finishers.

  • Cal Tri Walnut Creek: August 22nd
Only 12 miles from Charlottesville in North Creek, you can experience a
400 yard refreshing swim, a 16.6-mile undulating bike course with 1,100 feet of elevation, and a technical 5K trail run. Olympic athletes swim 1640 yards followed by a rolling, 23-mile bike course with 1,600 feet of elevation that ends with a technical 10K run.

  • Rock ‘n Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon and 5K: September 5th
A mostly flat course with a running finish along this coastal Virginia city’s beachfront boardwalk, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon is one of the country’s most popular races of its kind, typically drawing a field of more than 10,000 runners every year. Runners encounter local bands playing from stages set up throughout this Rock ‘n Roll race.

  • Luray Half Marathon and 5K: September 12th
You don’t get to run through the caverns, but you do get to run on a fully paved surface through the rolling hills of Luray. An after-party at Hawksbill Brewing Co. is a great finish at the finish!

  • CATs TrailFest: October 23rd at 8 am
The TrailFest will again be comprised of the CATHalf Trail Half Marathon, the Pounding Creek Trail Marathon, and a 10K Trail run! The beautiful campus of The Miller School of Albemarle features challenging climbs, miles of sweet single-track trails, and spectacular vistas of the Blue Ridge mountains. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers. And, of course, there will be a festive party at the finish.
